Practicing Yoga Outside: Practicing yoga in nature, for me, has created some of the most memorable moments of my life and it's been lovely getting outside again. The songs of the birds, the feel of the wind, the glowing sun, the shapes of the clouds, the energy of the sheltering trees with their limbs and leaves rustling with the wind.
Level: This class is open to beginners. It's a slow flow practice with a range of challenge so intermediate and advanced also benefit. Practice at your own pace.
On the Teacher: Hello! My name is Sandy Naimou and I've been practicing yoga for over 20 years and teaching for over 7 years. I teach full-time - this is what I do all week, it's the most beautiful work I have chosen and it's (thankfully!) a major part of my life. I have been the main yoga teacher at GM since 2012 and currently teach in other workplaces. This Sunday class is held, when indoors, at The Theosophical Society in Berkley. I have taught for The Detroit Zoo (2018), Red Lotus Yoga, L.A. Fitness. Visit www.creativeenergyyoga.com for more info. and to sign up for my free guided meditation gift.
YOGA is a system for self-transformation. The physical practice of yoga postures, which incorporate focus and concentration, help tone, strengthen and increase flexibility in both body and mind. This class is open to all levels, including beginners. You are encouraged to find your level of challenge through postures and breath. Your yoga practice will help you release tension and facilitate a deep relaxation while strengthening both body and mind.
A major focus of this class is connecting body and mind through breath awareness and breath control. Breathing is the gateway to the nervous system which we can affect directly through conscious and joyful effort.
A main goal of yoga is self-awareness. To provide an appropriate level of challenge for each person, you will be reminded to stay in-tune with your body as you honor where you are at right now. Modifications are suggested for each pose to meet different levels of experience.
